The Charlesworth and Chisworth carnival will be taking place this year on Saturday 13th July!

The Carnival Parade

The Charlesworth & Chisworth Carnival parade route will begin outside St. Margaret’s School in Gamesley at 12.30 on carnival Saturday, and end about 20 minutes later at the Village Green.

Dear Prospective Royalty,

Carnival 2024 is fast approaching and we need our Carnival Royalty!

Royalty is open to children aged 3 – 16 of any gender.

Do you think you have what it takes?

Just check it’s okay with your grown up (as there’s some work involved for them) and fill in a Royalty application form. Then return it to your school or to the address at the bottom of the form.

Closing date for entries is Friday 3rd May 2024

Scarecrow Competition

CARNIVAL 2024 Scarecrow Competition!

In recent years we have been doing colour themes, so bright and eye-catching. Well, I’ve had enough. Gave me headaches. Black and/or white this year!

You can be literal or cryptic it’s totally up to you. You could do old time film set or monochrome animal, horror or angelic? We’ve had some great interpretations of the theme in recent years and I can’t wait to see your amazing creations.

Rules:

We need to be able to see your creations: at least 1m tall, safely erected and visible from the pavement (unless you want people in your garden).

Appropriate for display (keep it PG please).

Your scarecrow needs to be up by 6^th July and for 2 weeks.

To enter, either, print and fill in this form and return to 9 Green Bank, Simmondley or message the carnival Facebook page with the entry details. You will receive a sign to display and your location will be on the Scarecrow Map.

Voting: only on the day by visiting carnival HQ on the field. Winners will be announced on carnival day 13^th July.

Attractions on the Rec!

As ever there will be a wide range of different food and drink stalls with live entertainment from different local bands whilst you eat and drink!

There will also be a big variety of children’s activities and stalls selling all kinds of different products on the field on the day.

Senior Fell Race

Fancy testing yourself on some of Charlesworth’s meanest fells? The senior fell race is a punishing 3 (and a bit!) mile run up Coombes Rocks and down the other side.

Race Start Time: 2:30pm

Junior Fell Race

For those aged under 14, there is a choice of 3 different fell races, according to age.

Race Start Time:
6-8yrs – 3:30pm
9-10yrs – 3:40pm
11-13yrs – 3:40pm

Carnival Bonanza 2024 tickets are coming soon so please keep an eye out for them in the local shops! Alternatively contact us and we will be happy to sell you some tickets!
