We know, last year, that we said carnival would always be a free event and we hand on heart, truthfully meant this to be the case… however we’ve hit an unexpected problem. A piece of legislation called the Street Traders Act (yes, we know carnival doesn’t take place on a street but it does still apply to us!), which covers the selling of goods anywhere outside of a shop means that with the number of stalls we have on the field the carnival is required to buy a trading permit if our event is free and open to the public. To put it simply we can’t afford this. Our only other option is to make carnival a “private” event which sadly means that to come along this year you will need to pay an entry fee – but its only £1. We are actively looking into any way in which for next year we can return to being a free to attend event but for this year sadly this is what we are going to have to do.
Please remember that for your £1 you get all the free entertainment (dog show, PAS, bubble man, circus skills, crowning of the Queen, Arnfield brass band, a chorus, the steel drums and much more) and music and fun that you normally have and the carnival gets to make money! Please remember that any profit the carnival makes is given back to local community groups!
Apologies again for this change and we sincerely hope that you can continue to support us in the fantastic way that you always have

CHARLESWORTH AND CHISWORTH CARNIVAL NEEDS YOUR HELP
Charlesworth and Chisworth Carnival Committee is seeking volunteers to help in the organisation and running of the Charlesworth and Chisworth Carnival!
To help us continue to put on the Carnival that you have all come to know and love we are looking for enthusiastic people to join the organising committee and/or to help out on Carnival day itself.
On the same note to ensure that we can continue to provide the sort of day that people have come to expect we would be very interested to hear from any one who has the urge to donate to a worthwhile cause, or who has a fundraising idea that they would be willing to run . Just a reminder that Charlesworth and Chisworth Carnival is not a profit making enterprise.
We’re also putting collection boxes in local shops so if you see any please donate your loose change.
Thank you.
The Charlesworth & Chisworth Carnival parade route will begin outside St. Margaret’s School in Gamesley at 12.30 on carnival Saturday, and end about 20 minutes later at the Village Green.
Enter a float in the 2019 parade!
To apply please download and complete the PDF entry form below, detach and return to the address at the bottom.
Carnival 2019 is fast approaching and we need our Carnival Royalty!
Just like last year
Simply this means that the entries are open to both boys and girls.
In addition this year we MAY be able to provide vehicles for the Carnival Royalty so watch this space!
Just check it’s okay with your grown up (as there’s some work involved for them) and fill in a Royalty application form. Then return it to your school or to the address at the bottom of the form.
Closing date for entries is Friday 3rd May 2019
Scarecrows are back & we can announce the theme for this year is “Treading the boards”
After the huge success of the village panto we’ve been inspired to ask for theatrical crows. It could be another Charlesworth themed Cinders or a stunning Ugly Sister? Maybe the Phantom, one of the 7 dwarfs or Mamma Mia? Whether panto is your thing, you love the west end or you’re a Royal Exchange lover get your creative caps on!!
As ever there will be a wide range of different food and drink stalls with live entertainment from different local bands whilst you eat and drink!
There will also be a big variety of children’s activities and stalls selling all kinds of different products on the field on the day.
If you would like to have a stall or concession on the Rec this Carnival Day then please take a look at our HOW TO BOOK A STALL OR CONCESSION page by clicking on the text in bold!
